My Art

There are patterns and relationships both seen and unseen that affect our lives.   Recently, scientists have begun to understand a little about hidden patterns using chaos theory and quantum mathematics.   Throughout the ages people sought to tap into these unknown patterns by use of magic, divination, and the arts.  Using the pure light of painting, I explore repetitive patterns and relationships between colors and shapes and their connections to the natural world and the visual forces I see.  I utilize watercolor enhanced with acrylics and pastels, and also diverge into pure pastel and pure acrylic work on both paper and canvas.  On this page are samples of my work in various media.

WATERCOLOR:

I discovered Watercolor during a summer class at the University of Colorado in 1960.  In the 1980’s I began working with this medium in earnest and love the transparent and saturated colors available.  I work almost exclusively on D’Arches watercolor paper.

ACRYLIC:

I began working with acrylic pigments when I came to Florida in 1970 and have really enjoyed the intensity and transparency of these paints.  I work with acrylics on canvas and combine them with watercolor on paper.

RUNE PAINTINGS:

I discovered Celtic Runes on a trip to Great Britain in 1999.  After researching these ancient language characters, I began using them in paintings that combine watercolor, acrylic, and sometimes pastel.  The intent is to use abstract imagery to interpret the meanings attributed to the runes.

LUMASONICS:

From 1974 – 1986 I worked with William Hoskins, Composer Laureate at Jacksonville University combining electronic music with color and lights.  We performed more than 20 concerts over that span of time.

Other:
